there are moments in life when the easier path is right in front of you—stable, predictable, secure. but sometimes, something inside you refuses to settle. for the founder of Sail North (aka The Captain), that moment came when finances were tight and the logical choice was to take a conventional job. instead, he chose the unknown.

he chose to Sail North.
the name itself came unexpectedly. in a room filled with music and creativity, it simply entered The Captain's mind. at first, it seemed random—unrelated to circumstance—but in hindsight, it made perfect sense. "Sail North" became a call to adventure and an invitation to follow inspiration wherever it leads.
what started as a personal vision quickly became something bigger. this "Celtic Shanty-Pop" project wasn't built alone—it was forged in collaboration with like-hearted creatives and shaped by a passionate community (aka The Crew) who believed in the journey and were bound by a shared passion for creativity and innovation. it became more than music; it became a movement.
at its core, sailing north is about choosing the adventure over the ordinary and discovering something extraordinary along the way.

WHO IS
THE CAPTAIN?

the first song released under the Sail North name told of a bold, prideful sailor—blinded by ambition and claimed by a ghost ship of wrath and shadow.

Some say he is the very soul behind The Shadow's helm.

Others whisper of a bardic phantom, drifting from port to port, warning sailors of pride's high cost and selfish hearts.

Whatever the truth, The Captain is a storyteller.

Born of a mariner and descended from Ireland, he threads memory and myth into song—each melody a tale and each tale a lantern in the dark.

aye! the music and characters are part of a bigger world being built.
why doesn't The Captain ever show his face?
Sail North is about the cause and meaning of the phrase. it's about the stories that are being told, the world that's being built and The Crew that's being gathered. Simply put, that's where The Captain wants the focus to be.
will Sail North stories explore formats other than music?
aye! there are plans to create books, poems, animations, live experiences, etc. in fact, there is currently a live-action series in development that will feature stories and characters from the world of Sail North!

aye, these shanties and sea songs are being written post-2020—not hundreds of years ago. hence, 'Celtic Shanty-Pop': a contemporary take on a traditional style.
